What is Evaporative Cooling?

Evaporative Cooling consists of a natural process that uses water as a refrigerant in order to obtain efficient air conditioning or cooling. It is on this principle that refrigeration equipment such as Cooling Towers and Condensers are based to cool fluids in all types of applications.

During evaporative cooling, excess heat is released into the atmosphere through evaporation of water. This cooling process is carried out by contact between water and an air stream in the heat exchanger.

Evaporative Cooling is ideal for applications where it is necessary to reduce high temperatures without excessive energy consumption.

Why is Evaporative Cooling used?

Thanks to evaporative cooling, the Cooling Towers and Evaporative Condensers today represent a very efficient alternative in the industrial cold sector since they use techniques that are respectful with the environment and require less investment. They also involve numerous advantages such as:

Energy Saving

One of the first advantages of using this technique is energy savings since the consumption of electrical energy is related to the condensation temperature of the refrigerant used. In a typical installation, energy consumption can reach very high figures, while in evaporative cooling installations, energy savings of up to 45% can be achieved.

Respect for the Environment

By using water condensation there is hardly any environmental impact. Furthermore, the reduction of the greenhouse effect is considerable due to the fact that indirect CO2 emissions are limited. This is due to an efficiency in the process, the more efficient the process, the less is the amount of energy that is lost.

Security

Evaporative Cooling cooling is an appropriate system for indirect systems, since water cooling temperatures of up to 25 ° C or lower can be reached, which allows the use of intermediate heat exchangers.

Therefore, evaporative cooling equipment reaches lower water temperatures than those obtained in air cooling equipment, whose performance is limited by the dry bulb temperature. With this technique, condensation in refrigeration installations can be carried out at a suitable temperature so that the pressure in the upper part of the refrigeration circuit is much lower and, therefore, reduce the risk of refrigerant leaks and the consequent direct potential impact.

In addition, among other advantages, we can mention a lower acoustic impact and a reduction in water consumption.

APPLICATIONS OF EVAPORATIVE COOLING

Evaporative Cooling has different applications in the Industry in Mexico, here we will summarize a little of these:

APPLICATION IN THE POULTRY INDUSTRY

Evaporative Cooling systems are very important in poultry houses during the hottest months of the year because when the temperature is reduced the problems related to thermal stress are reduced.

APPLICATION IN THE AGRICULTURAL INDUSTRY

Keeping the air temperature constant is a very important factor inside a greenhouse. A delicate balance must be maintained to increase production.

APPLICATION IN THE SWINE INDUSTRY

Keeping a constant temperature within a pig facility is key to animal comfort and production. An evaporative cooling system provides a more consistent and quality air temperature.

APPLICATION IN THE DAIRY INDUSTRY

Heat stress in dairy cows can cause a decrease in milk production. Evaporative cooling achieves high cooling capacity and minimizes production loss during extreme outdoor temperature peaks.
